The project of Jenn Ackerman (winner of an EMMY award) is about the condition of mentally ill prisoners in US prisons. The progressive and inexorable reduction of funds for mental health in the U.S. has turned prisons into the main mental health facilities. The system, created and devoted to security, is now trapped into the mechanism of mental illness. As a consequence, mental patients are often trapped inside this system as there are no alternatives. The images are powerful, intense, sad, cruel as they tell the condition of prisoners who spend up to 23 hours inside a cell (adjusted, at least in theory, to the treatment of their pathologies), with their demons as their only company. The author has spent a long time in those cells.
